Making soba

We got the chance to make our very own Soba noodles yesterday. Soba noodles are made from buckwheat flour and, now I know, are made in a very precise and particular way.  Our teacher was a woman from Belgium who apparently left everything behind to master the art of noodle making in Japan.  I won't go into all the details of how the noodles are made, but it was great fun!

After we finished making our noodles, they were rushed to the restaurant so they could be boiled and prepared into our lunch.  Soba noodles are served plain and cold, alongside a bowl of a soy-based sauce to which you add wasabi and green onions.  Dip the noodles in the sauce, make sure to slurp as you eat, and enjoy!

From flour to feast!
