Now we are six

Ellis turned six last week! We had waffles for breakfast, ramen for lunch, and his favorite udon for dinner.  (That last sentence would summarize Ellis's dream diet if he had his way in all things.)  We had a birthday party over Zoom with family back in the US.  He opened presents. Played with presents.  We skipped school for the day and watched the movie Babe.  What a life a six year old has!

The cake was a matter of much discussion over the past few months.  Chocolate cake with NO oreo crumbs, dinosaur fossils hidden inside to be "excavated" when the cake is cut, a curated selection of both adult and juvenile dinosaurs, represented by carnivores AND herbivores.  He helped make and decorate it himself.  The creature on the side in the "blue sea" was the birthday surprise.  He has been asking for a plesiosaur for ages and he was thrilled.

I know that everyone says that their kid is the best, and I'll say that now.  He tests my patience and fortitude almost every hour of every day, but his out-of-the-box antics and intellect never ceases to amaze me.  Case in point: the picture below is when Ellis decided to draw Orion's Belt on his face.  You shine bright like a star, Ellis, and we love you.  Happy Birthday!  💖

When I was One,
I had just begun.

When I was Two,
I was nearly new.

When I was Three,
I was hardly Me.

When I was Four,
I was not much more.

When I was Five,
I was just alive.

But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.
